On Tour 10/20/26-11/30/26 “First Generation” by Meghana Karanjkar

Release Date: October 27, 2026

About The Book:

Compelling and incisive, FIRST GENERATION delves deeply into the meaning of being an outsider – whether as an immigrant, a foster child, or a homeless person. It seeks to understand the struggles of wanting to be accepted, whether in a new country, a new family or a large, bustling metropolis.

As a woman moves to the US, a first generation immigrant, she learns and unlearns behaviors so that she can not only survive but also prosper in the new country. When a young man is faced with the news of a debilitating illness, he has to also come to terms with the changing nature of his relationship with his girlfriend. And in the middle of a hot and humid night in rural Pennsylvania, three young girls must quickly decide on what could be a turning point in their lives.

Book Blurbs:

“Writer Meghana Karanjkar understands the complexities of the human heart. In these twelve illuminating stories, set across India and America, she vividly renders setting while also exploring the bonds of love, family, and duty, and the ways caste, culture, and tradition shape our most intimate choices. Her writing is both lyrical and precise, and I found myself drawn into the world and characters she creates, feeling as if they were people I knew and loved too.”— Aimee LaBrie, award-winning author of Rage and Other Cages

“Meghana Karanjkar’s collection, First Generation, kept me rapt from the first story to the last. The twelve well-crafted stories in the book offer a fascinating smorgasbord…What binds the diverse stories in this collection are the concepts: universal, humane and immediately recognizable. First Generation will make a worthy addition to any bookshelf.”— Sudha Balagopal, author of Family Matters, forthcoming from Santa Fe Writers Project, 2027
