On Tour 09/05/24-10/05/24 “A New Day: Stories” by Sue Mell

Release Date: September 3, 2024

About The Book:

Set in New York and San Francisco beginning in 1982, these beautifully crafted and moving linked short stories follow a group of twenty-somethings who struggle to find happy relationships and creative fulfillment -and then to deal with the choices they made in their youth.

Rachel falls for one of her professors in her final year of art school and never quite shakes the attachment. Yet when another old flame, whose addiction killed his sculpture career, later criticizes her corporate artistic success, Rachel knows enough to value the life and career she’s created. Emma, a determined aspiring actress, flits from one house-sitting gig to the next, until forced by a hold-up at her waitressing job to finally ask herself why she can’t stay in one place. And after a coke-fueled evening photo shoot at Bloomingdale’s leads to being fired, Nina discovers, years afterward, the unexpected promise of that evening.

Filled with longing and hope, loss and reconnection, bad choices and better ones, A NEW DAY takes a generous look at early adulthood and how we age slowly into our dreams, or into whatever we can salvage of them, and how-if we’re lucky- we also grow into wisdom and a kind of grace.
